Meeting Minutes

21 March 2011

#1 Sergeant John V. Young Drive, SF, CA

7:10 PM Call to Order

Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

Roll Call of Officers

There were 2 new members present.

SFPD Report:

Lt. Steven Mannina of Ingleside Station gave an update to the membership on activity in the neighborhood.

Current issues include continued dumping and parked campers & trailers on Circular, San Jose, and the Baden and Paulding overpasses.

A member brought up the continued difficulty for pedestrians crossing Alemany at San Juan Ave. (no light or STOP sign).

The Lieutenant passed around copies of the current crime map and a list for members to sign up for Capt. Cassanego's email blast.

Easter Egg Hunt:

A list was passed for volunteers to help with this year's Annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Those who volunteer to color eggs were informed that they will also need to cook them this year.  More about this event at April's meeting.

J-Church Streetcar Line Cuts?

Sup. Scott Weiner (District 8) held a meeting regarding the inconsistent service of the J-Line through Noe Valley.  The recommendations proposed were to have more "turnbacks" at 30th street which directly impacts the service to our neighborhood.  There would be more streetcars serving Noe Valley towards downtown and fewer through our neighborhood and on to Balboa Park Station.

There is a meeting next Monday (3-28) with Supervisor Avalos to speak against cuts to our service.

A motion passes to send V-President David Hooper to the meeting to speak for our concerns.

A motion passes to compose a letter regarding inaccurate destination signs on streetcars and failure to stop at islands in our neighborhood (particularly outbound F-Line Cars).

Balboa Park Update:

The work project is to go out to bid in April with work to begin in August 2011.  The delay (8 months and counting…) is apparently due to various City Departments needing to sign off on project and some ADA issues.  The Trust for Public Lands currently has three projects going on in the City - Balboa is one of them.

Treasurer’s Report:

We currently have 41 paid members and $4,339.15 in our account.

Sunshine Committee Report:  No cards were sent.

Various Communications were read.

Old Business:

  There was no Old Business.

New Business

§  NMTIA member, Sandy Sherwin, our representative on the Urban Tree Council brought up the possibility of funding in next year's grants for greening of San Jose Avenue.

She also discussed the concept of "Living Sidewalks" where 10-15  contiguous households agree to remove substantial portions of the paving in front of their homes to be replaced with a street tree and other landscape plants.  With grant funding it can be done for about $150 a household.

§  Balboa Playground Gate:  Linda Liteheiser reports that the Friends of Balboa Park Playground received a community challenge grant for $43,000 to erect a decorative entry gate at the playground to be installed by August 2011.

§  Sunnyside neighbors on Circular Ave. are pursuing changes in parking restrictions to prohibit vehicles taller than 6' from parking on their street.

A motion passes to support the parking restriction changes.

A motion to adjourn was approved at 8:41PM.
